Duke basketball co-captain, recovering from hip surgery, will return for fifth year
Duke senior Joey Baker is taking advantage of an extra year granted to him by COVID and returning for another year.
Baker, a native of Fayetteville, was a co-captain for the Blue Devils last season as Duke won the ACC regular-season title and made it to the Final Four.
Baker has appeared in 88 games in four seasons, starting four games for the Blue Devils. The 6-foot-7 small forward shot 41 percent from 3-point range this season. For his career, he is a 38 percent shooter from behind the line.
During the 2021-22 campaign, Baker scored a season-high 13 points in a win over South Carolina State. Baker has made 198 3s in his career.
Baker reclassified and enrolled at Duke early in the summer of 2018, arriving on campus with Zion Williamson, R.J. Barrett, Cam Reddish and Tre Jones. Baker was a four-star recruit and the No. 3 player in North Carolina in the class of 2018.
Baker had offseason hip surgery on Tuesday, and was seen on crutches at Thursday night’s Duke basketball banquet.
