Everything you might have missed from Taylor Swift's wedding to Travis Kelce
Taylor Swift and her "magnetic force of a man," Travis Kelce, are officially married.
After days of hype and speculation, at about 7:30 p.m. July 3, a bright pink message flashed on the Jumbotrons outside Madison Square Garden: JUST&T MARRIED!
Roughly 13 minutes later, the sign returned to normal programming. But what was going on inside was far from a normal event. It was obvious from the way the couple kicked off their wedding weekend by donating $26 million to charities across the country.
Permits had been filed in late June in New York City for street closures around Madison Square Garden in Midtown Manhattan from July 2 to around noon July 4. Speculation swirled: Could they really be getting married at the famed sports arena? How would they transform the space? Would they fool us all and get married beforehand and this would be one hell of an afterparty?
But the show did go on: Crews unloaded truck after truck of custom décor wrapped in black tarps and blue moving blankets. Fans spotted signals for what they might be: "garden party" and "trees" were written on tape on the boxes.Perhaps the one thing beyond any bride's control? The weather. Temperatures soared outside, approaching 100 degrees as police set up barricades. Security tightened. Fans camped out hoping to see anything.
By wedding day, Midtown was abuzz. Departures from hotels like the Ritz-Carlton became their own pre-event red carpet. Some guests arrived hidden behind black SUV windows. Others, including author Jenny Han and singer Benson Boone, walked straight down the sidewalk in full wedding attire. Nikki Glaser rolled down her window for a second to wave hello, as did Mariska Hargitay. The guest list was huge: actors, athletes, musicians, business leaders and plenty of Chiefs. Kelce reportedly golfed with close friend Patrick Mahomes before the ceremony. Fans dissected who made the guest list – Karlie Kloss! Julia Roberts! Brad Pitt! JLo! Sacha Baron Cohen? – and who didn't (Blake Lively was spotted in upstate New York with husband Ryan Reynolds; Prince William didn't make it, though he did appear on Kelce's podcast the day before). There was a who's who of football (Matthew Stafford, Baker Mayfield, Cooper Kupp, and even Mike Vrabel), and country, too (Brad Paisley, Chris Stapleton, Tate McRae, Miranda Lambert, Kimberly Schlapman and others).
Inside, Swift brought the garden to Madison Square Garden. Attendees described peach-and-white draping that created an intimate feeling. There were also childhood photos of the couple, thousands of flowers, pink wraparound couches, towering illuminated trees, exquisite food reportedly catered by Sartiano's, and a "T&T" crest repeated throughout the space.
And despite the grand affair, which experts estimated could easily cost $20 million or more, it all felt surprisingly personal, guests said.
The details of Taylor Swift's intimate ceremony
Rather than a traditional wedding party, Swift's brother, Austin, was her "man of honor," and Kelce's brother, Jason, served as his best man. (This put to rest any idea that Swift's close friend Abigail Anderson and NFL wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster's fiancée Laura Kruk, who happened to wear the same Sau Lee dress, were in the bridal party.) Adam Sandler, Kelce's costar in "Happy Gilmore 2," officiated the wedding. (No word on if he was also a wedding singer.)The bride and groom both wore Christian Dior Haute Couture designed by Jonathan Anderson, the creative director of Dior. (It was his first couture wedding dress created for a globally recognized celebrity.)
In a lengthy post on X that has since been deleted, AMC CEO Adam Aron described the inside as flamingo pink from the couches to the curtains, but also like an intimate garden party with lush, idyllic, green scenery and 5-foot trees.
Swift and Kelce exchanged personal vows that were funny and touching. George Stephanopoulos, who attended, as did his "Good Morning America" cohosts Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan, said the couple "wrote their own vows" and read them from "little books," adding the celebration was "as intimate as it could possibly be, given it was Madison Square Garden."
Robin Roberts agreed, noting, "They had their neighbors, their high school friends. It was like any wedding that you would attend." And Strahan called it "their dream wedding, and it really was amazing."
Robin Roberts also confirmed what had been widely rumored, ever since Swift wore a T-shirt that quickly went viral to the Knicks winning game during the NBA Finals, that Stevie Nicks performed. There were reports Paul McCartney played "I Want to Hold Your Hand.""What an amazing night, so much love in the building!" Ashanti captioned a video of her and her husband. "Congratulations @taylorswift & @killatrav."
Nelly similarly wrote on social media, "S/O to @taylorswift & @killatrav ..!! Wedding was incredible.""They cried and they laughed and they hugged and they danced and they kissed," a member of Swift's extended family told a British outlet.
Travis Kelce's dream getaway car: "JusT&T Married"
After the MSG marquees lit up with their message, and Swift's longtime publicist confirmed the news, rain poured down in New York City, bringing not only a brief respite from the heat, but also a rainbow just behind the skyline. The Empire State Building lit up in blue (reportedly the bride's "something blue").
Fans paid no mind to President Donald Trump trying to troll the big day; they were jubilantly joyful in the celebration – even though they hadn't seen the couple – and broke out in song as they continued to stand in the heat beyond the barricades. How did it end? Some of the 1,000 guests exited on the early side, like Jessica Alba and actor boyfriend Danny Ramirez. Tom Brady was spotted departing alone in a car around 10 p.m., and Hugh Grant and wife Anna Eberstein left on foot, just as they had entered. Others stayed late into the night, including Gigi Hadid and boyfriend Bradley Cooper, and close friend Selena Gomez, who left around 1 a.m. Laura Dern and Ethan Hawke and his wife, Ryan, reportedly left around 2 a.m.No one saw the bride and groom depart. (Though signage spotted at the venue notified guests that they might be recorded; could a wedding documentary be forthcoming?)
And by morning, the fake trees, custom furniture and branded décor were already being loaded out. Among the items seen: a burgundy muscle car with the license plate "JusT&T Married."
