Mexico Fans Ripped For 'Classless' Behavior Outside England's Hotel
Hundreds of Mexican soccer fans were reportedly seen outside of England's apparent hotel in Mexico City on Saturday night, ahead of the Sunday evening showdown in the Round of 16.
Mexican supporters were seen blaring music and chanting all night long, in an apparent attempt to mess with England's players and their sleep schedule, prior to kickoff on Sunday evening.
Footage of the behavior quickly went viral.
"England booked 15 different hotels, Mexico fans still found out where they are staying and blasted noise all night long," Barstool Sports shared.
"Classless," one shared.
"Because of idiots like you all, hatred starts to brew that shouldn't even exist toward us, things were going so well and you just had to start messing it all up....." one fan added.
"They're just making fools of themselves; hotels have noise insulation and they surely gave them rooms far from the street," one fan added.
England's players were apparently unbothered, though
BBC reports that England's camp has made it clear that the players were not really bothered.
"Footage published on social media appears to show a group of fans chanting, playing music and letting off fireworks on a street nearby England's hotel in Mexico City," the outlet reported.
"Early indications from the England camp are it had minimal impact on the players.
"Police in riot gear have been lining the streets immediately surrounding the hotel, with anyone attempting to get close being moved away."
Time will tell if England's players actually got enough rest, though.
The game is being played in Mexico City, which has an incredibly high elevation, which can make it difficult for players and their stamina.
Kickoff on Sunday evening is scheduled for 8 p.m. E.T. The World Cup Round of 16 game will be airing live on FOX. The winner advances to the quarterfinals.
