Originally released in 1997, Backyard Baseball became one of the most recognizable children's sports franchises thanks to its accessible gameplay and memorable cast led by Pablo Sanchez. The series built a dedicated fanbase over multiple releases before going dormant for years.

The game is launching on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. While the SteamDB listing specifically tracks the PC version, console versions are expected to become available at or around the same time. However, platform-specific launch schedules have not yet been officially confirmed.

Players can purchase and download Backyard Baseball on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch beginning July 9.

What's Included in the New Backyard Baseball?

The all-new Backyard Baseball blends the charm of the original games with modern features while keeping the focus on fun rather than microtransactions.

Players can expect:

  • 30 Backyard characters
  • 24 original teams
  • 11 remastered stadiums
  • 6 unique game modes
  • Unlockable characters and collectibles
  • Achievements to earn
  • Tutorials and accessibility features
  • T-ball mode for younger players
  • Competitive gameplay options for experienced fans

Unlike many modern sports games, Backyard Baseball will not feature microtransactions. Instead, players will unlock characters, collectibles, and achievements through gameplay progression, a design choice that should appeal to longtime fans of the series.

Power-Ups Are Back

No Backyard Baseball game would be complete without its iconic power-ups.

Pitchers can once again unleash Fire Balls, Crazy Balls, and Freezeballs, while hitters can counter with Crazy Bunts, Undergrounders, and the legendary Aluminum Power Bat.

Players will also be able to customize their experience with adjustable rules, optional errors, position management, lineup creation, and other accessibility features designed to welcome both longtime veterans and first-time players.

With Pablo Sanchez and the Backyard gang returning, remastered ballparks, unlockables to chase, and six game modes to explore, July 9 is shaping up to be a nostalgic Opening Day for sports gaming fans.
