Spurs' De'Aaron Fox Reacts to Historic 0-2 Deficit in NBA Finals

The San Antonio Spurs came close to getting the NBA Finals tied at 1-1 on Friday. However, the New York Knicks came out ready and secured a thrilling 105-104 win to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

De'Aaron Fox shook off his disappointing Game 1 performance. The Spurs needed him to step up following a seven-point NBA Finals debut. In Game 2, he had a better showing with 20 points, three rebounds and five assists.

The Spurs became the third team to lose the first two home games in an NBA Finals. They joined the Orlando Magic (1995) and the Phoenix Suns (1993) as the only ones to reach that feat. Both the Magic and Suns lost during their run in the Finals after going down 0-2.

De'Aaron Fox Doesn't Want the Spurs to Follow the Trend

After the game, it was brought up to Fox that no team has ever won after losing the first two games.

"We've just got to make history not repeat itself," said Fox.

Fox made it clear that the Spurs wanted to win both games in front of their home crowd. But things did not go as planned, and they will be at a disadvantage since they are behind in the series when they play the New York crowd on Monday.

"We want to win both games, but we've got to take it one game at a time," he said.

The Spurs had a chance to win the game after they overcame a 14-point lead by the Knicks. It went down to the wire when New York had a one-point lead with 7.5 seconds left in the game.

The Spurs had a two-man game with Fox and Victor Wembanyama in a pick-and-roll situation. They tried to force a switch and get Knicks center Mitchell Robinson off Wembanyama. However, the big man stayed with the two-time All-Star after the screen was set.

With the clock winding down, Wembanyama took a mid-range shot over Robinson and missed the potential game-winner. After the loss, Fox wasn't disappointed with the missed shot from his co-star and told reporters that he felt confident with it.

"It's a great shot. He makes that shot 9 times out of 10," the star guard said.

While Fox remains confident in his co-star, Wembanyama admitted that he's disappointed in the outcome of the play.

"I threw that away. I messed up," Wembanyama said. "But at this point it's done. Am I going to regret it? Yes, of course. Am I gonna use it to fuel me and fuel us next game? Absolutely."

Fox and the Spurs remain optimistic that they can bounce back in Game 3. However, it will be a challenging environment to play in at Madison Square Garden.
