East Carolina, NC Central welcome early signees on National Signing Day
Two in-state coaches, who each just finished their first year at their respective schools, signed their first full recruiting classes.
East Carolina’s Mike Houston and North Carolina Central’s Trei Oliver got National Letters of Intent from a combined 33 players on Wednesday.
Houston will welcome eight early enrollees.
“It’s an exciting day for East Carolina football, and it’s a big next step for our program,” Houston said in a release. “This class is large in number, but also high in quality. It was obvious after our first year in this league (American Athletic Conference) that we needed to address size and speed in our program, and this class will certainly help us close the gap.”
In his first year as a head coach, Oliver went 4-8 at his alma mater. All but one of his signees are from North Carolina. One if from his home state of Virginia.
“Our staff did an outstanding job of thoroughly recruiting the state of North Carolina, and we feel as though we addressed specific needs,” Oliver said in a news release. “This is a great start to the 2020 recruiting class with more to come.”
