Champs again! Durham Bulls win second straight Governors’ Cup.
The Durham Bulls won their second straight International League Governors’ Cup in a 6-2 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Saturday at PNC Field in Moosic, Pa.
The Bulls led 6-0 in the sixth inning after left fielder Joe McCarthy hit a three-run double in the fourth inning. The RailRiders then scored when first baseman Mike Ford hit a two-run home run, according to the Bulls’ Twitter account.
The Bulls won the best-of-five series 3-2 after losing to the RailRiders 5-2 on Friday.
The entire Governors’ Cup series was moved to PNC Field due to Hurricane Florence.
The Bulls advance to Tuesday’s’ Triple-A National Championship game at Columbus, Ohio. Durham will face Pacific Coast League champion Memphis in a winner-take-all title game for the second year in a row. Memphis beat Fresno, 5-0, to win the PCL Championship Series, 3-1, on Saturday night.
Last season, Durham beat Memphis, 5-3, to win the second Triple-A National Championship in club history.
