As Hurricane Florence approaches the Carolinas, several colleges have changed their plans for games set to take place this week. N.C. State announced Tuesday it would cancel its Saturday home game against West Virginia, and UNC announced it would also cancel its home game on Saturday against Central Florida.
Other college teams have moved or changed travel plans for this weekend. Many high schools in the area have already canceled or postponed football games and other athletic events.
Florence, a category four storm as of Tuesday, is expected to reach North Carolina on Thursday.
Here’s the latest on what games in the area have been canceled, which have been postponed and which will go on as scheduled. We’ll continue to update this blog throughout the week.

N.C. State’s Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony has been postponed, but a new date has not yet been set. The event was originally planned for Friday at 6 p.m.
No. 18 Central Florida at North Carolina
North Carolina announced Tuesday it will not play its Saturday home game against No. 18 Central Florida due to Hurricane Florence.
A makeup date for the game has not been announced, but UNC and UCF officials will work on finding a date to reschedule the game.
“Hosting a major college football game is a massive undertaking that on a good day involves fans and thousands of state, local and campus personnel, including public safety officials, traveling from all over the area,” UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham said.” The current forecast for both the impact and aftermath of the hurricane would require those officials to divert critical resources from what could be much more significant duties. We can’t know for certain the amount of damage the storm will inflict, but the sensible decision at this time is to not play the game.”
