What you’re saying: Annie Hoffman Harrison and Elin Hoffman

A hopeful teacher

Regarding Jesse James DeConto’s My View column “Durham teacher gives kids a little faith” (THS, June 9)

Jesse James DeConto’s column is wonderful, and awfully flattering.

I’m just hopeful that people will get the message that I tried to share with the kids, and that I hope they shared with their parents: that people can believe in fundamentally different faiths, and yet still be friends.

Thank you for sharing our goal!

And from the teacher’s mom

Regarding Jesse James DeConto’s My View column “Durham teacher gives kids a little faith” (THS, June 9)

Full disclosure – I am Annie’s mother. BUT I am also an educator, and I have to say that this is what has been missing in so many classrooms these days.

There is too much focus on testing, and not enough focus on learning not just math and science, but learning about what it means to be a tolerant, caring human being.

Thank you for putting this story out for others to see!
