List of shelters in greater Triangle where you can stay during Hurricane Florence

Wake County
Wake County announced Sunday, Sept. 16, that the following shelters will stay open for coastal evacuees and have “limited capacity.”
▪ Shelter for New Hanover County residents (priority) at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, 2600 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh.
▪ Garner High School, 2141 Spring Drive, Garner.
▪ Knightdale High School, 100 Bryan Chalk Lane, Knightdale.
Wake announced that the following shelters would close at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16: Heritage High School in Wake Forest, Middle Creek High School in Apex, Sanderson High School in Raleigh. Those still needing shelter will be taken to Knightdale High School, the county said.
Durham County

Shelters at Bahama Ruritan Club and Hillside High School are now closed.
Orange County

Shelters at Smith Middle School and W. Stanford Middle School have closed.
UNC-Chapel Hill opened a shelter at the Friday Center for Continuing Education, 100 Friday Center Drive.
Johnston County

Johnston County announced Sunday, Sept. 16, that First Baptist Ministry Center at 125 South 4th Street in Smithfield is open as a shelter. Dogs or cats can’t stay at the shelter and will be taken to the Johnston County Animal Shelter while their human companions are at the ministry center.
The county announced Sunday that shelters have been closed at North Johnston Middle School in Micro and Benson Middle School and West Johnston High School in Benson. On Saturday, Clayton officials announced a shelter at Clayton High School was closed.
Chatham County
Shelters at Northwood High School and Chatham Middle School have closed.
Franklin County
▪ Franklinton High School’s shelter was set to close Friday. The shelter at Louisburg Senior Center closed Saturday, county officials said.
Cumberland County
▪ Kiwanis Recreation Center, 352 Devers Street, Fayetteville.
▪ Mac Williams Middle School, 4644 Clinton Road, Fayetteville.
▪ Pine Forest High School, 525 Andrews Road, Fayetteville. (Pet accommodations provided)
▪ Seventy-First High School, 6764 Raeford Road, Fayetteville.
▪ Smith Recreation Center, 1520 Slater Ave., Fayetteville.

▪ W. T. Brown Elementary School, 2522 Andrews Church Road, Spring Lake
Robeson County
Robeson County officials on Sunday, Sept. 16, announced a shelter at South Robeson High School. The county on Thursday had announced shelters at Lumberton High, Purnell Swett High School, St. Pauls High and Fairmont Middle School.
General guidelines for those seeking shelter
Bring blankets and pillows, prescription medications, insurance information, towels, infant supplies, comfortable clothing, personal radios with headphones, games, reading material or other things to pass the time (especially for children). Do NOT bring weapons, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, candles, valuables. Smoking is not allowed inside shelters.
Remember that coming to a shelter after the storm arrives will be very dangerous, if not impossible. If you live in an area that floods, have no transportation, or have health issues that make staying in place risky, come to the shelters Wednesday night or very early Thursday.
