The NWS Newport/Morehead City NC released a heat advisory at 1:57 a.m. on Saturday valid between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. The advisory is for Northern Craven, Southern Craven, West Carteret, East Carteret, Inland Onslow, Coastal Onslow, Ocracoke Island and Hatteras Island as well as Duplin, Lenoir, Jones and Pamlico counties.
The NWS informs, "Heat index values up to 105 degrees expected."
"Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses," explains the NWS.
This advisory is in effect until 8 p.m.

- Consider the timing: When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Familiarize yourself with warning signs: Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Stay cool with clothing: Select lightweight and loose-fitting outfits for enhanced comfort.
To minimize risks during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises incorporating frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If someone experiences heat-related symptoms, promptly relocate them to a cool and shaded spot. In case of an emergency, dial 911.
