Extreme heat warning affecting Eastern North Carolina until Saturday evening

An extreme heat warning was issued by the NWS Wakefield VA on Friday at 1:57 a.m. valid from 10 a.m. until Saturday 8 p.m. The warning is for Western Currituck as well as Northampton, Hertford, Gates, Pasquotank, Camden, Bertie, Chowan and Perquimans counties.

The NWS informs, "Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values 110 or greater expected."

"Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events," says the NWS.

This warning is in effect until Saturday at 8 p.m.

To minimize risks during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises incorporating frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
