Beach hazards statement issued for Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover for Monday

On Sunday at 7:50 p.m. a beach hazards statement was issued by the NWS Wilmington NC valid for Monday between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover.

The NWS informs, "Strong south to north longshore current, especially starting in the afternoon."

"Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making it difficult to return to shore," adds the NWS. "Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards you may be swept into."

This statement is in effect until Monday at 8 p.m.
