Heat advisory for Eastern North Carolina for Friday

On Thursday at 2:16 p.m. the NWS Wilmington NC issued a heat advisory valid for Friday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. The advisory is for Inland Pender, Inland New Hanover and Inland Brunswick as well as Robeson, Bladen and Columbus counties.
The NWS informs, "Heat index values up to 106 degrees expected."
"Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses," says the NWS.
This advisory is in effect until Friday at 8 p.m.

- Be mindful outdoors: Take extra precautions when working or spending time outside.
- Time your activities wisely: If possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening when the heat is less intense.
- Recognize warning signs: Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Stay cool with clothing: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
To minimize risks during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises incorporating frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If someone experiences heat-related symptoms, promptly relocate them to a cool and shaded spot. In case of an emergency, dial 911.
