On Sunday at 2:35 p.m. the NWS Morristown TN released a fire weather watch valid for Monday between noon and 8 p.m. for Cherokee and Clay counties.
Winds are forecasted to be northwest at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph are possible along the mountain peaks and humidity 25 to 30%.
"A Fire Weather Watch for low relative humidity and gusty winds is in effect from Monday afternoon through Monday evening. Due to the ongoing drought and a lack of appreciable rainfall, critical fire weather conditions are met at relative humidity values of 30% or less," says the NWS. "Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended."
This watch is in effect until Monday at 8 p.m.
A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
