A report from the NWS Blacksburg VA was issued on Sunday at 9:21 a.m. for fire danger until 7 p.m. The alert is for Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Wilkes and Yadkin counties.
"Little if any rain occurred last night and this morning across the foothills and piedmont of North Carolina. With humidity dropping to 15 to 25% this afternoon, and northwest winds gusting to 20 to 25mph, fuels will dry out quickly. This will result in an increased risk for the rapid spread of wildfires through early evening. Additionally, Monday will be another very dry day with gusty winds, so expect worsening conditions across all of northwest North Carolina. Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution handling any potential ignition source, including machinery, cigarettes, and matches. Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly. A statewide burn ban is in effect for North Carolina," according to the NWS.
This alert is in effect until 7 p.m.
