For the second weekend in a row, Triangle residents are bracing for winter weather.
The difference this weekend is that forecasters are predicting fluffy snow instead of treacherous ice.
In a rare plot twist, nearly the entire state of North Carolina should see some snow this weekend. And with the ground being very cold, it’ll stick.
But how much will everyone get?
Here’s the latest breakdown from the National Weather Service, as of Saturday, Jan. 31, at 10:30 a.m. Snow is expected to begin approximately 10 a.m.
How much snow will Raleigh, central NC and beaches get?
- Triangle: 4-6 inches throughout the area, with localized amounts varying.
- Along I-95: 6-8 inches for most areas along the corridor. Some areas may get 10 inches or more . Infrequent wind gusts of up to 45 mph could create blizzard conditions.
- Fayetteville, Sanford: Those areas are on the map with 6-8 inches possible.
- Coastal NC: Snowfall rates could exceed 1 inch per hour in NC beach towns. Wilmington could get 4-8 inches of snow.
- Outer Banks: Not only will OBX towns see significant snow totals (up to 12 inches possible at Kitty Hawk and Manteo), wind gusts could cause blizzard conditions.
- Charlotte: The Charlotte area could see 4-8 inches of snow.
- NC mountains: Areas of western North Carolina will see ranges of 4-8 inches of snow.
Disclaimer: Of course, there are pockets within all of these areas that could see more or less snow than forecasted.
