Check out snow videos as NC transitions from summerlike temps to winter wonderland
After a stretch of summerlike temperatures, winter weather walloped parts of North Carolina on Monday, Jan. 3.
Snow blanketed the Western North Carolina mountains and lightly coated the grass in the Triad, according to photos and videos posted to Twitter.
Forecasters had issued a winter weather warning for the western part of the state as up to 4 inches of snow were expected in some areas, McClatchy News reported. Here are some of the scenes social media users reported seeing in the mountains.
The National Weather Service also said cold air moving across the state made snow possible in central North Carolina, near the Virginia state line. Here’s what people reported seeing in the Triad.
The alerts were in effect two days after the state had a taste of summer. This weekend, temperatures in Asheville rose into the 70s.
In Greensboro, the temperature was 77 degrees on Jan. 1, a record high. That rivals normal summertime temperatures, which range from the 80s to the upper 50s, according to the National Weather Service.
