Heading to North Carolina beaches for Labor Day weekend? Here’s the forecast
If you’re heading to a North Carolina beach this Labor Day weekend, scorching temperatures could cool off just in time for your trip.
But even if you escape the heat, rain could dampen the experience.
Heat indexes are expected to reach the triple digits along the southern and central parts of the N.C. coast on Thursday and Friday, the National Weather Service said.
The combination of 90-degree temperatures and humidity “may warrant another heat advisory Friday, though (it) will be the last one for the foreseeable future,” the weather service in Wilmington said.
A cold front could start moving toward the coast late Friday and “usher in more seasonal, and welcoming, temps for the weekend,” according to forecasters.
Across Eastern North Carolina, highs are expected to be in the 80s from Saturday through Monday, officials said.
Near Wilmington, rain and thunderstorms are possible Friday to Monday, the forecast shows. To the north, there are also chances for showers and scattered storms through the weekend, forecasters said.
As of Tuesday morning, no rip current risks or other beach hazards were listed for the holiday weekend.
The predictions come as Tropical Depression 15 is forecast to track away from the North Carolina coast. The system, which formed in the Atlantic, could bring dangerous rip currents and rough surf to parts of the Outer Banks on Tuesday.
