This ice cream shop ranks as best in SC. Why North Myrtle Beach fans can’t get enough
An ice cream shop “steps from the ocean” is scooping out the best frozen treats in South Carolina, a new report finds.
Melt in North Myrtle Beach was named the best place to get ice cream in the state, according to results published Tuesday, June 7.
The coastal shop earned the honor after the restaurant review website Yelp said it studied ice cream places that people were craving the most from April 2021 to April 2022.
“We identified businesses in the ice cream category, then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews,” Yelp said in its report, which listed the favorites in each U.S. state and several Canadian provinces.
On its Yelp page, some Melt customers said they couldn’t get enough of the shop’s selection of flavors, which in recent months has ranged from brownie batter to goat cheese and raspberry swirl. Others were fans of the shop’s efficient way to serve beachgoers, helping it to earn five out of five stars.
From its location near the shore on Main Street, Melt said it serves a mix of homemade and Hershey’s ice cream. Though the shop opened in 2017, the idea for starting it developed long before.
“A small Emory Thompson batch freezer in our family home was used to dream up some of the signature Melt flavors you have come to love and expect,” the business said on its website. “We had no idea what we were really getting into, but we love our beach community and wanted to serve them the best quality ice cream and flavors you can’t find anywhere else.”
It’s not the first time Melt has received wide acclaim.
Recently, the shop was voted the top place to go for ice cream in the Myrtle Beach area. The Sun News shared the findings after collecting almost 4,000 responses from its nonscientific poll, the newspaper reported in March.
