A woman’s craving for candy led to a big jackpot prize in South Carolina.

The woman had a sweet tooth when she picked up a lottery ticket worth $375,000, officials said.

“I was running through the house screaming,” the winner told the S.C. Education Lottery in an April 7 news release.

The woman couldn’t contain her excitement after officials said she tried her luck at a convenience store in West Union, a town in Oconee County and roughly 45 miles southwest of Greenville. She spent $10 on a ticket for the Mighty Jumbo Bucks game and later scratched it off in her kitchen.

“When she saw the word ‘JUMBO’ with a prize of $75,000 underneath, she showed the ticket to her family,” the lottery said in its news release. “And they pointed out the directions said her prize was five times that amount. She quickly did the math.”

That’s when she discovering the ticket was really worth $375,000, meaning that she beat 1-in-960,000 odds to win the top prize. The woman — who didn’t want to be publicly identified — then claimed a prize that totaled $258,750 after taxes, according to the news release and lottery spokesperson Holli Armstrong.

“Now I can buy a lot of candy,” the winner jokingly told the S.C. Education Lottery.

It’s not the first time a big windfall followed a desire to load up on sugar.

Last year, officials said a South Carolina lottery player bought a winning ticket while getting a candy bar. And in North Carolina, a woman was on a soda run when she hit the jackpot, McClatchy News reported.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
