A 3-year-old boy died after a vehicle hit him in South Carolina, multiple news outlets reported.

The Darlington County Coroner’s Office told WPDE a family member was driving the vehicle at the time of the March 19 incident.

Officials told news outlets it happened that afternoon near Wildwood Court in Hartsville, roughly 70 miles northeast of Columbia.

The child was taken from a private property to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee said, according to WBTW.

“This is a terrible tragedy for this family and our prayers are with them all,” Hardee said in a statement obtained by WMBF.

News outlets didn’t share additional details about the relative who officials said was behind the wheel of the vehicle, and the coroner’s office didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ requests for information on March 21.
