Arson investigation launched after woman found dead in fire that destroyed trailer in SC

Firefighters found the body of a 36-year-old woman in a badly burned office trailer Monday night in Upstate South Carolina, the Cherokee County Coroner said.

Investigators with the State Law Enforcement Division arson team are helping the coroner and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s office investigate the fire, Coroner Dennis Fowler said.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found an outside mobile office type trailer fully engulfed with fire. After extinguishing the fire that totally destroyed the unit, the victim’s body was discovered,” the coroner said said.

The Gaffney Fire Department was called to the blaze at about 11:15 p.m. Monday, the coroner said.

Fowler identified the victim as Nica Arlene Mullinax, 36, of 212 Meadow Lane. He said the fire was near the victim’s home at 118 Meadow Lane.
