A biker was left trapped under a patrol car when he crashed in the path of a pursuing deputy, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

The 23-year-old man was arrested after being from by a hospital and faces a half dozen charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, officials said.

The chase started around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at a check point on Old Beatty Ford Road near China Grove.

“Two motorcycles approached and were signaled by deputies to stop. Both motorcyclists refused to stop and instead, made a right turn onto China Grove Road and accelerated,” the sheriff’s office said.

“Deputies then pursued the fleeing suspects. At the intersection of Daughtery Road and Bostian Road, one of the fleeing motorcyclists wrecked and was subsequently pinned underneath the front of the pursuing deputy’s vehicle.“

EMS crews worked with fire department staff “to free the suspect from under the deputy’s vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said. He suffered minor injuries, officials said.

The biker has been charged with: felony fleeing to elude arrest, speeding, no operators license, not displaying a registration plate, no liability insurance, failure to heed law enforcement light and siren, resisting public officers, carrying a concealed gun, officials said. Bond was set at $20,000.

The second motorcyclist vanished in traffic along Interstate 85 and the motorcycle “was later located at exit 47 in Cabarrus County where it had been abandoned by the suspect,” the sheriff’s office said.

China Grove is about a 35-mile drive northeast from Charlotte.
