As communities continue to clean up from Hurricane Helene, the “Good Morning America” team traveled down South to spotlight the ongoing recovery efforts in communities hit hardest by the storm.

Six months after the storm touched down in Western North Carolina, Robin Roberts, chief meteorologist and chief climate correspondent Ginger Zee and WABC-TV’s weather anchor, Sam Champion, are hosting a live report in Asheville on Thursday, March 27.

‘Asheville Rising’

Overall, the storm swept through much of western North Carolina, along with the nearby states of Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida, according to state officials. Severe flooding and landslides left the biggest impact on communities in the mountains.

Though many businesses have since reopened and another round of funding has been allocated for relief efforts, there is still a long road to recovery for many in the region — which will all be highlighted in GMA’s special, called “Asheville Rising.”

Aimed to focus on the “strength of the community,” the live coverage will included stories of families dealing with aid delays, small businesses, hometown heroes, local leaders, Asheville’s economic resurgence and more.

There will also be live donations, giveaways and a performance from North Carolina native Chase Rice, who also performed at the Concert for Carolina benefit show in Charlotte. That concert raised more than $24,513,000 for storm victims.
