Joker the dog was adopted from a ‘horrible’ situation. Now, he needs a new home again
A dog was rescued from a “horrible” situation — and now he’s looking for another new home, a North Carolina animal rescue said.
Joker was part of a litter of puppies that escaped danger in 2022. Someone threatened the pups before they were taken to Heart of the Foothills Animal Rescue and found safe places to live, the organization wrote on Facebook.
But then, Joker’s new owner became sick, and the treatments made it impossible for the adoptive family to keep him. He returned to the rescue in June 2023, about a year after he was adopted, according to the rescue in Rutherford County.
Now, the dog is looking for another place to live, officials wrote Oct. 4 in a social media post. Joker is described as a 100-pound pup who loves cuddling and can’t get enough of playing outside.
“He wags his whole back end when he is happy, which is always,” Heart of the Foothills wrote.
Joker is up for adoption a second time after the puppies in his litter reportedly had their lives “on the line.” A photo showed one of his siblings being “held up terrified as a show of what would happen” if they hadn’t been saved, the rescue said.
After Joker’s last owner had to bring him back, he went through a trial adoption. But that didn’t work out because he didn’t get along with the family’s male dog, Heart of the Foothills told McClatchy News in an email.
“He doesn’t like male dogs. That’s OK, we don’t always like everyone we meet,” the rescue wrote, adding that anyone interested in adopting Joker can apply at heartofthefoothills.org/adopt.
The rescue’s adoption center is in Rutherfordton, roughly 70 miles west of Charlotte.
