Mystery jackpot winner in popular NC lottery game claims his million-dollar prize

A mystery jackpot winner in the popular North Carolina Fast Play game has come forward to claim his prize, lottery officials said Thursday.

Waco resident Wesley Barrett told The Charlotte Observer he will likely put his big win of $1.14 million into a trust fund for his 2 1/2-year-old daughter. The 52-year-old claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh Wednesday, officials said.

He previously planned to donate the money to former President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, but changed his mind, saying it would go to his daughter.

Barrett won the prize on a $10 Jackpot 777 ticket he bought May 26 at Metcalf’s Grocery on Tryon School Road in Bessemer City, according to a lottery news release.

“The win sets a new record for both a Fast Play jackpot and a Fast Play win,” officials said.

The previous top Fast Play jackpot win came March 11, when a player won $920,665 on a $20 100X the Cash ticket, plus the $200,000 cash that comes with a $20 Fast Play purchase, officials said.

The odds of winning a Fast Play jackpot are 1 in 320,000, according to the Fast Play game page.

Fast Play jackpots rise with every ticket sold. After Barrett’s win, the jackpot started over at $20,000. As of Thursday, the jackpot rose to $108,000, according to the Fast Play game page.
