23,000 won prizes in back-to-back drawings in popular NC lottery game. How they won.

Buyers of at least 23,000 tickets in a popular North Carolina lottery game won a combined $9.5 million in back-to-back drawings Thursday and Friday nights, lottery officials said.

Players won by picking either of two of the most popular number combinations in the Pick 3 game, according to a lottery news release Saturday.

Thursday night, 11,081 tickets matched the numbers 1-1-1, officials said.

Friday night, 12,071 tickets scored prizes when the numbers 2-2-2 were drawn, according to the lottery.

“Combinations of three of the same numbers, known as ‘trips,’ are some of the most popular sets of numbers played,” officials said in the release. “Whatever three numbers you pick, the odds of matching exactly all three in a Pick 3 drawing are the same: 1 in 1,000.”

A player with a winning 50-cent ticket Thursday and Friday nights won $250, while anyone who bought a $1 ticket with the winning number scored $500, according to the lottery.

Drawings in the Carolina Pick 3 game are held twice a day, at 3 p.m. and at 11:22 p.m. You can either pick your own numbers or select a Quick Pick by allowing the lottery terminal to generate a set of three numbers.

Players have six months to claim their prizes.

Pick 3 tickets are available at lottery retailers and through Online Play on www.NCLottery.com.

Drawings are 3 p.m. and 11:22 p.m. daily.
