Longtime lottery player learned about second-chance drawings. Then, he won big in NC

Felton McKoy Jr. has been playing the lottery for a long time, but he only learned about second-chance drawings about six months ago.

Now, he wants to make sure other people know about the drawings after winning $200,000 in the Feb. 8 Multiply the Cash second-chance drawing, North Carolina lottery officials said in a Feb. 14 news release.

“Hopefully other people will be inspired to try too after seeing my win,” McKoy told officials.

The lottery player learned of his win outside a grocery store.

“I was sitting in the parking lot getting ready to go in the grocery store when the email came in,” he told officials. “I was so excited I never made it into the store.”

McKoy lives in Maryland, but he is from Greensboro and considers North Carolina home, according to officials.

“I love the scratch-offs here,” McKoy said, per the release. “I really only buy them in North Carolina.”

After taxes, McKoy took home $142,500, which he plans to use to pay bills.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
