Two brothers killed when SUV slams into Hardee’s restaurant in North Carolina, cops say

Two brothers were killed when a vehicle crashed into a Hardee’s in North Carolina, news outlets report.

The vehicle slammed into the restaurant near the Walmart on Forest Hills Road in Wilson the morning of Sunday, Aug. 14, the Wilson Police Department said in a news release.

Christopher Ruffin, 58, and Clay Ruffin, 62, were hit by the SUV, police told WTVD.

Police said Christopher Ruffin died at the scene, WNCN reported. Clay Ruffin was taken to a hospital, where he died.

They were the only people hit by the SUV, police told the outlet.

The 78-year-old driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital and was later released, police told WGHP.

“At this time, officers are still investigating the incident but do not believe it to be medical or impairment related,” police said, according to the outlet.

The crash temporarily shut down part of the road, and people were asked to avoid the area as officers were on the scene, police said. The road has since reopened.

No other information about the crash had been released as of Sunday afternoon.

Wilson is about 50 miles east of Raleigh.
