Two dead as fire roars through mobile home in North Carolina, officials say
Two people are dead after a mobile home caught fire in North Carolina, news outlets reported.
A third person was airlifted to a hospital with burns after the blaze broke out in the town of Madison, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.
Crews responded to a mobile home after a fire ripped through it close to 7 a.m. March 16, according to WXII. The blaze was reported at the residence on Madison Beach Road, roughly 35 miles northwest of Greensboro.
“It’s a single wide (mobile home) and they’ve done some additions to it, which that also hampers some of the firefighting when they add on things like that,” said Jim Ritchey, the Madison fire chief, according to WFMY. “I don’t want to put the investigators in there with an unsafe roof where it might fall and hurt somebody.”
At the time of the fire, officials reported finding an adult and a possible child dead inside the home. As of March 17, the blaze was still under investigation, Lt. Kevin Suthard, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, told McClatchy News in a phone interview.
The Rockingham County fire marshal’s office and the Madison Fire Department didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ requests for information on March 17.
