Cook spends $5 on lottery ticket — and plans to ‘bless others’ after NC jackpot win
A cook spent $5 on a lottery ticket — and it paid off big time in North Carolina.
Now, she plans to “bless others” with prize money from her jackpot win, the N.C. Education Lottery said in a news release.
“My life is good right now,” winner Gladys Avery told lottery officials. “I love to bless other people. I’m just happy when other people are happy.”
Avery is basking in her big windfall after she went to Liberty Food Mart after work on Tuesday, Nov. 9. While at the convenience store in Dunn — roughly 40 miles south of Raleigh — officials said she tried her luck on the Jackpot 7’s game.
It turns out, her Fast Play ticket was worth $107,297.
“I really didn’t know what to do,” Avery said. “I felt so good.”
Avery, who also works as a housekeeper, kept $75,914 after taxes, according to officials. The N.C. Education Lottery in a news release didn’t share details about how she hoped to “bless others.”
It’s not the first time a lottery player hoped to give back after scoring a big prize.
In May, officials said a man promised to help his mom after winning thousands of dollars in South Carolina.
And in North Carolina, a trucker had plans to share his extra cash with his relatives, McClatchy News reported.
