Four lottery wins in two weeks: North Carolina man credits ‘a lot of good luck’
A North Carolina man won three lottery prizes — but his “two-week lucky streak” wasn’t over yet.
Frank Drum Jr. decided to try his luck again and ended up buying a scratch-off ticket worth $100,000, the N.C. Education Lottery said Tuesday on Twitter and in a news release.
“I basically walked straight out of the store, got into my truck, sat down and got myself together after I’d realized what I’d won,” he said in the release. “It was unbelievable.”
Officials say Drum’s four-time “hot streak” started when he won $100. He told the lottery he used that prize money to buy a ticket worth $1,000.
“Then I went in on a Friday, bought another $25 ticket and won another $1,000,” Drum said in the news release. “It was a lot of good luck.”
His latest good fortune came when he went to the Kingsway convenience store in Lincolnton, roughly 35 miles northwest of Charlotte. That’s where he bought the $100,000 winning ticket for the Ruby Red 7’s game, officials say.
After scratching off his ticket, Drum called his wife. He wanted to come home, but she insisted he run another errand, the lottery says.
“I said, ‘Look, I won $100,000,’” Drum told officials. “And she goes, ‘No, you didn’t!’ and hung up on me. She thought I was lying to her!”
But the prize was the real deal, and the couple now plans to put the winnings toward bills and savings, the news release said.
“Then, when all the COVID-19 is over, we’ll take a week’s vacation,” Drum said in the release. “It’s been a blessing for us. This is definitely going to make life a lot better.”
Drum, who lives in Lincoln County, kept $70,756 after taxes.
