Moped driver plunges 60 feet off bridge into marsh, North Carolina police say
A moped driver is recovering after a fall over the edge of a North Carolina bridge, police say.
Ian Jones, 32, was driving his moped “back and forth between the lanes” on the Isabel Holmes bridge in Wilmington on Wednesday morning, according to a release from the Wilmington Police Department.
“He clipped a truck” that was trying to pass him and was thrown from the moped and over the side of bridge, police say. Officials say he fell about 60 feet, WWAY reports.
When officers arrived around 7:30 a.m., they found Jones in the marsh below the bridge “awake and talking.”
He was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, about five miles away, where police say he’s recovering.
Police say he will be charged with failure to maintain lane, expired registration and no insurance. The truck driver is not expected to face any charges.
