Where’s the best place to live? Two North Carolina cities make national list

Two North Carolina cities are among the most livable places in the country, new rankings show.

Charlotte and Raleigh made it onto a list of top 10 cities for people wanting to relocate, according to the housing website Curbed.

The site put the cities in its rankings after analyzing “walkability, park access, diversity, housing costs, job opportunities, and more,” according to the findings released Tuesday.

The Queen City got nods for its “hipster” Plaza Midwood neighborhood and Little Sugar Creek Greenway park project. Job growth and a changing skyline also helped the city get a spot on the list, results show.

“Recently christened a ‘millennial boomtown’ for its growing young and diverse population, the area is also maturing when it comes to development and urbanism, shaking its reputation for corporate campuses and banking,” Curbed said.

For Raleigh, the study highlights recent downtown construction projects and plans to develop Dorothea Dix Park. It also says the Triangle’s technology industry and universities have played a role in new ventures.

“Forecasts predict the booming city will continue to grow, making it a great location if you’re an entrepreneur looking to start a new business,” Curbed said.

It wasn’t the first time the biggest cities in the Tar Heel state earned acclaim.

Last month, Charlotte and Raleigh were ranked among the best cities in the world for quality of life, The News & Observer reported.

In another recent study, the Raleigh metro area ranked the third-most attractive place in the United States for millennials, people ages 25 to 34.

Other cities recognized in the Curbed study were Arlington, Virginia; Boise, Idaho; Dallas; Denver; Madison, Wisconsin; Minneapolis; Provo, Utah; and St. Louis.
