Plane crashes in North Carolina with two people and dogs on board, officials say

Two people and two dogs were on a plane that crashed in North Carolina on Thursday, officials say.

The small, single-engine plane went down in Duplin County for “unknown reasons” at about 10:30 a.m., according to a release from Duplin County Fire & Emergency Management

The pilot, Ken Brown, and his wife were flying from Southbridge, Massachusetts to Venice, Florida along with the two dogs when it happened, WCTI reported

The plane, a Cirrus SR22, was equipped with a parachute. Brown used it to safely land the plane in the trees, where officials say it was suspended about 5 feet above the ground, according to WCTI.

Brown told WITN that he tried landing it in a field near the trees but “came down a little shy of that goal.”

Everyone, including the dogs, was able to get off the plane uninjured, the release says.

Brown told WITN it’s a “miracle” no one was hurt.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash along with the National Transportation Safety Board, according to WCTI.
