Waiter helped himself to extra tips on restaurant tabs for 50-plus diners, NC cops say

Dozens of customers at a popular North Carolina restaurant unknowingly had tips added to their checks, officials say.

Dalton Chobanian, 26, is accused of adding tips to more than 50 bills paid by credit cards at Abbey Road Tavern and Grill in Fuquay-Varina, where he worked as a server, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.

After a customer complained to police that $10 had been added to their bill, police reviewed weeks of receipts from the restaurant, Lt. Brett Walsh told WRAL.

“After you presented your card for the bill, he would manually enter in an extra $10 tip,” Walsh said, according to TV station. “We reached out to over 50 people in this case that it happened to, and a lot of them didn’t even realize it had happened.”
