Teen’s bike was stolen — but how this NC cop responded is winning him praise

Fuquay-Varina Police Department

Chad Williford, a Fuquay-Varina police officer, responded to a call last month about a teenager’s stolen bike.

After speaking with the family, he learned how much the loss of the bike affected the teen. So Williford decided to buy the boy one, and delivered the replacement bicycle about an hour later.

Now Williford has been named employee of the month for the Fuquay-Varina Police Department.

“We are proud of Officer Williford and his actions to turn a negative experience into a positive one. Keep up the great work Officer Williford,” the department said in a Facebook post.

The teen and his family came to the police department Wednesday to thank Williford. The department gave hima helmet, bicycle light and reflective wristbands.

The teen’s mom commented on the department’s Facebook post Thursday.

“FVPD rocks and I’m proud to live in this community, thank you so much Officer Williford and chief Laura,” she said. “This police department goes above and beyond.”
