NC county gets presidential prediction right yet again by backing Trump in 2024
Nash County continues to stand alone in North Carolina.
It’s the only county in the state to elect the winning president four times in a row: Barack Obama in 2012, Donald Trump in 2016, Joe Biden in 2020 and, now, Trump in 2024.
Tuesday’s election night results show Trump won 26,303 votes, or 50.44%, compared to Democrat Kamala Harris’ 25,316 votes, or 48.55%. That’s a wider margin than any of the prior years where Nash correctly picked the president.
It contains rural, small towns in the west and grows more populous toward Rocky Mount, which splits Nash and Edgecombe counties. The main political divide between voters in Nash is rural, agricultural communities and the city, where there are more Democrats, Robbie Davis, Republican chair of the Nash County Board of commissioners, previously told The Charlotte Observer.
Nash County results from Tuesday night show a cluster of Harris-voting precincts near Rocky Mount along with a few on the county’s northern border and one on the western border with Wake County.
And here’s another trend Nash County follows: split-ticket voting.
Nash County backed the winning Democratic Council of State candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and state superintendent while also picking most of the winning GOP Council of State candidates. The NC auditor’s race was the only exception — where Nash County picked Democrat Jessica Holmes but the state went for Republican Dave Boliek.
