NC House’s budget plan for education and public safety | Under the Dome podcast
It’s House budget week, still.
New this year and different from the Senate’s budget, the House is doing a slower rollout of its budget proposal. Much of it was released in several committee meetings last week, and on Monday the full budget, with raises and tax policy, was set to be revealed.
Good morning and welcome to The News & Observer’s Under the Dome newsletter. I’m Capitol Bureau Chief Dawn Vaughan.
Our newsletter on Tuesdays is a preview of the new episode of our Under the Dome podcast that posted this morning on all podcast platforms. I’m joined by education reporter T. Keung Hui and politics reporter Avi Bajpai.
On this episode, we break down the House budget provisions that came out in committees, as well as House Speaker Destin Hall’s announcement on tax policy.
We talk about budget cuts across the board, from millions of dollars in mostly vacant state employee positions to the UNC System raising tuition. And more on what the House wants to do in the areas of education and public safety.
Stay tuned to the end for our picks from Headliner of the Week, which range from graduation season to major national news and some programming notes.
