Under the Dome podcast: How Robinson scandal may impact Trump, presidential campaign in NC
Start your week in North Carolina politics with our latest Under the Dome podcast, for the week of Sept. 23, 2024. Dawn Vaughan here, your podcast host and The News & Observer’s Capitol bureau chief. On this episode, I’m joined by my politics team colleague Danielle Battaglia, our Washington correspondent.
Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s scandal — over a CNN report alleging he made many vulgar, racist and sexually explicit comments on a pornography website — continues to have fallout. Robinson denies the CNN report that outlines all the ties between Robinson’s own email and online accounts and the posts, calling it “tabloid trash.”
President Donald Trump was expected in Wilmington on Saturday, so as we recorded this episode on Friday afternoon, we discussed how Robinson will impact Trump’s chances in North Carolina, as well as if he might drag down other Republican candidates on the ballot.
Headliner of the Week
After the break, we talk more about Robinson’s impact on other Republicans. Plus what you need to know about Congress, a possible federal government shutdown and the political power play, which is part of Battaglia’s pick for Headliner of the Week.
My headliner is celebrating the work of my N&O colleagues at the North Carolina Press Association awards, which includes the politics team.
