‘Mystic’ sea creature — with ‘snow-white’ body — spotted with her baby. See them swim

Beachgoers at a surf club in Australia recently spotted something in the water, only a few hundred feet off shore.

The concerned bystanders called Dolphin Discovery Centre to report what they thought was an albino whale or orca, the center said in an Oct. 18 Facebook post. At the same time, wildlife officials received calls of a distressed whale in the same location.

Immediately, the center’s research and conservation vessel headed to investigate, the post said.

After searching, experts aboard the vessel spotted what the beachgoers had reported: It was a “mystic” humpback whale and her baby.

“Turns out that it was, in fact, a humpback that had a dark coloured front and a snow-white back body with her new calf,” the center wrote in its post.

Experts launched their drone to make sure the creatures were safe, and both animals appeared “fit and healthy,” the center said. The duo came close to the Bunbury coast before they were guided back to their migration route by a group of dolphins.

Whales near Australia migrate north starting in May and June, and they begin their southbound journey between August and November, according to Australia’s National Parks and Wildlife Services blog.

Bunbury is about 100 miles south of Perth in Western Australia.
