President Donald Trump is set to have a medical checkup Tuesday, the White House has said, making it his third scheduled visit to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in just over a year.

The White House had announced the annual dental and health checkup earlier this month, with officials referring to a May 11 statement when reached by Newsweek Monday.

Trump, who persistently questioned his predecessor President Joe Biden’s health over his term, has faced many questions of his own about his health since he returned to office in January 2025. Despite insistence from his officials that he is in great health, other medical professionals have said they are skeptical of the official line on the near-80-year-old president.

April 11, 2025: First Physical of Second Term

Trump underwent his annual physical exam at Walter Reed shortly after returning to office last year. The exam, which lasted about five hours, included bloodwork, cardiac testing, CT scans, and ultrasounds.

The president also underwent neurological and cognitive screening, something he has repeatedly referred to as having passed with flying colors, and as something all presidents should go through.

The White House said he was in “excellent health” and fully fit to serve.

While unusually detailed in some respects, the report still followed the longstanding norm where presidents control what is released, leaving gaps in underlying data. The inclusion of the cognitive test in the report also led to questions around Trump’s mental health.

Trump also underwent a comprehensive medical evaluation in July of that year after swelling in his lower legs and ankles, as well as visible bruising on his hands-something which has become a repeated talking point for those concerned for his health, with Trump at times appearing to cover his hand in public.

This was not a scheduled visit. Some Democrats and doctors raised questions following the checkup, including why it had taken viral photos of the president for the White House to release details on the president’s health.

October 10, 2025: ‘Semiannual’/Follow‑up Visit to Walter Reed

Trump then visited Walter Reed again in October, for what was described as a routine yearly checkup, despite having had his yearly physical in April. The president called it a “semiannual” visit.

Again, the visit included routine tests, as well as an MRI scan and lab tests. The White House declined to fully disclose the reason for the exam.

May 2026 Visit: What To Know

According to the White House’s announcement earlier this month, Tuesday’s hospital visit will also be routine.

“This will include the President's routine annual dental and medical assessments as part of his regular preventive health care,” the May 11 statement read. “The President will also spend time with service members and staff at Walter Reed in recognition of their service, professionalism, and dedication to the nation.”

The visit is still likely to draw scrutiny, however routine it may be, with both critics and supporters watching what the White House shares about the tests and any potential treatments the president will undergo.
