Taco Bell’s new churro is a ‘twist on tradition’ but it won’t last long. What to know

Taco Bell is putting a “sweet twist on tradition.”

The all-new Milk Bar birthday cake churros arrived Thursday, Feb. 20, at participating Taco Bell restaurants nationwide, just in time for the restaurant’s birthday, according to a company news release.

The fast-food chain teamed up with the New York-based dessert bar on the popular Mexican dessert — a crispy churro filled with birthday cake frosting and topped with confetti sprinkles.

Customers can get one for $1.99 or a two pack for $2.99, while supplies last, the restaurant said.

“We love partnerships that play with form and flavor, which is exactly what we’ve done with this extra-celebratory take on the churro,” Liz Matthew, global chief food innovation officer for Taco Bell, said in the release.

Churros, of Spanish origin, are traditionally made with a flour-based batter that’s deep fried and dusted with a cinnamon-sugar blend, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica. The sugary treat is usually eaten in the morning and is served with a chocolate sauce for dipping.

“Churros are also popular in Argentina, where they are filled with dulce de leche,” experts said.

It’s not the first time Taco Bell and Milk Bar have partnered on a culinary creation.

In 2022, the two companies launched the strawberry bell truffle, a mashup of the dessert bar’s cake truffles and Taco Bell’s crunchy taco shell, according to the release.

The Milk Bar birthday cake churros are available for a limited time, though Taco Bell didn’t say for how long.
