Bear cub caught in wire fencing cries as CO officers try to free it. See the rescue
A black bear cub ended up tangled in wire fencing in Colorado as its mom watched helplessly from a tree, wildlife officials said.
Its rescue was caught on camera.
The cub was caught in “gnarly” wire fencing on Saturday, June 1, in Evergreen, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Northeast Region posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
A video shows the mom in a tree just feet from her cub.
Wildlife officials said they tranquilized the bear so she wouldn’t interfere as they tried to free the cub.
Once they did so, officers got to work trying to get the cub unstuck.
They used a catchpole, a stick with a cabled loop, to keep the cub in place as they cut the wiring, officials said.
The cub can be heard in a video crying as rescuers worked to free it.
Eventually, they release the cub back to its mom and the two reunite, officials said.
A police dog was used to scare the animals from the area so they don’t return, officials said.
“A complicated rescue with a happy ending!” officials said in the post.
Evergreen is an unincorporated town southwest of Denver.
