Tourist scuba diving with group at CA cove dies after never resurfacing, officials say
A tourist died after vanishing while scuba diving with a group in a California cove, according to officials.
Jared Schreck, 44, of Nebraska, was in La Jolla Cove on Sept. 3 when his scuba partners realized he was not with them, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a news release.
Upon noticing Schreck was missing, the other divers started looking for him, according to the release.
He was found underwater “without his regulator in place,” per the release. The device allows a diver to breathe underwater, according to Go Dive Now.
Schreck was pulled to shore, and lifeguards started CPR, the release said.
After paramedics were called, Schreck was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Schreck died of cardiac arrest and drowning, according to the medical examiner’s office.
