A bald eagle was not “having the best day” after it slammed into a window at a California home.

Worried residents saw the stunned bird covered in mud along with shattered glass — so they called for help, the Palo Alto Animal Control said in a May 31 Facebook post.

When officers got the call, they didn’t believe a bald eagle was in someone’s yard. Instead, they said they thought it was likely a hawk or an owl.

But when they got to the home, there was a 4-to 5-year-old eagle recovering in the resident’s side yard.

Photos show the broken window and a perplexed bird.

Officers said the eagle was likely hunting for a smaller bird when it “flew too low for his own good” and crashed into a patio window.

Two wildlife officers approached the bird with a net, but it flew to a barbecue in the yard. The eagle then flew off as they tried to get closer.

“He was slightly worse for wear, but not significantly injured, and hopefully will have some positive takeaways from this ordeal,” the animal agency said in the post.

Residents can add decals to windows to help prevent birds from crashing into their reflective surfaces.

Palo Alto is about 30 miles southeast of San Francisco.
