Mr. Mojo vanished 10 years ago. See emotional reunion as owner finally finds her cat
A woman lost hope after her beloved cat went missing — but an emotional reunion was a decade in the making.
Mr. Mojo the cat finally came home after he was captured just 2 miles from where his owner, Erin, last saw him 10 years ago. She started crying when she received the news that her missing pet — also known as Mr. Kitty — was found, according to the Charleston Animal Society in South Carolina.
“She had been so worried about Mr. Kitty and was shocked that he was at the shelter,” the organization wrote May 2 in a Facebook post. “Erin rushed to Charleston Animal Society to reclaim her boy.”
Heartwarming photos show Erin embracing her long-lost cat during the unexpected reunion.
“His kitten brother, Mahi turned 10 years old and was still with Erin,” the shelter wrote. “Mr. Kitty’s human sister was 13 when he went missing and is 23 now. Time marches on but what an amazing story this is.”
Erin adopted the two cats about a decade ago and moved in with a dog that Mr. Kitty didn’t get along with. Then one day, her beloved feline asked to be let outside and disappeared from the town of Mount Pleasant, officials said.
Mr. Kitty, who had spent time outdoors in the past, usually came back home. But when he didn’t return that time, Erin reached out to a shelter and posted information on flyers and social media.
“She did all the right things and still, Mr. Mojo wasn’t found. After a few years, she reluctantly gave up hope of finding him and adopted two other kitties,” officials wrote, adding that the dog had since died.
Then in April, Erin’s luck took a turn when animal control caught a cat miles from where Mr. Mojo was last seen. The Charleston Animal Society said it discovered the cat belonged to Erin after checking for a microchip, which stores information about pet owners.
Animal experts in South Carolina have urged people to microchip their pets, as they can help lost animals reunite with their families.
After the shelter shared the story about the recent reunion online, some social media users expressed their joy while others said the situation brought them renewed hope about having their lost pets back home.
“Oh my that’s such an uplifting story,” one person commented on the shelter’s Facebook page.
“I still look for our lost dog,” another social media user wrote. “It’s been a little over a year!! This gives me hope that maybe one day (our) best boy will be found.”
The owner, identified only as Erin in a Facebook post, didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment on May 4.
