An 83-year-old man died after a driver who pulled over to help accidentally struck him with their car, Alaska troopers said.
The driver noticed Thomas Coyle, of McGrath, had driven off road and was stuck in a ditch on Monday, March 27, Alaska State Troopers said in a March 28 news release.
As the driver was hooking up a strap to tow the man’s vehicle, “the tow vehicle lurched backwards,” striking Coyle, troopers said.
The driver got out of his car and noticed Coyle “on the ground,” according to troopers.
Troopers said first responders arrived, but Coyle died from his injuries.
Foul play is not suspected, according to troopers.
McGrath is about 220 miles northwest of Anchorage.
