A cluster of mysterious orbs lit up the night sky in Virginia this week, puzzling some viewers and prompting theories to grow online.

Questions and comments about the lights in Norfolk flooded in on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 16, WAVY reported, including claims of “possible UFO” sightings and “strange orbs seen moving in odd patterns.”

Others shared videos online of the lights and one recording had the hashtag #aliens. Commenters theorized airplane lights and rocket launches.

Luckily, the explanation is more merry then ominous.

“It’s a certain type of holiday decorations creating that type of effect in the sky…I hope,” one viewer commented.

They were right, the lights came from the nearby holiday festival “Winterfest on the Wisconsin,” hosted by Nauticus.

“[T]hey are a part of the light design aboard the battleship for our holiday experience, WinterFest on the Wisconsin. Our lights are so bright, you can see them from space,” a festival spokesperson confirmed to WAVY.

The festival sports about 1 million lights on display, Nauticus told WTVR.
